Synopsis
When divorces were still frowned upon here-till a couple of decades ago-couples were forced to stay on in loveless marriages, with or without the addition of physical abuse or infidelity. Shouldn’t relatively easy divorces today then be seen as a boon, not a bane, for such couples?
A friend who recently had to do the usual rounds of court for her divorce by mutual consent was struck by one phenomenon she observed there: nearly all the other couples who were waiting to sever their matrimonial bonds were young-very young. Most of them had been married barely a few months and had already decided to call it quits. In fact, the judge was surprised (she thought) to see a couple of my friend’s generation amid this cohort.
