VASANTRAO NAIK

Vasantrao Phulsing Naik of VJNT Caste served as Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1963 until 1975 to this date. He was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He was on Born: 1 July 1913, Yavatmal. He even returned to power after the completion of the full five years.

Vasantrao Naik was also known as The Father of the Green Revolution in Maharashtra and a personality who adorned the position of Chief Minister of the State for 11 years at a stretch.

He was the founder of the Janta Shikshan Prasarak Mandal and the Babasaheb Naik College of Engineering, Pusad. Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College in Maharashtra state was named after him. A biopic was made in the Marathi film industry, which was called Mahanayak Vasant Tu, starring Chinmay Mandlekar.

V. P. Naik died at the age of 66 in Singapore on 18 August 1979 when his nephew Sudhakarrao Naik took over as Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He was the Alma Mater of Morris College and Nagpur University.

Before 2019 Maharashtra had 50% reserved seats in the educational and government job sector, including economically backward people and other VJNT castes. Post-June 2019, the Bombay High Court reduced that percentage to 12% and 13% for the Maratha backward classes (SEBC). In addition, the Union Cabinet stated a 10% reservation for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). It makes Maharashtra the state with the highest reservation in India.
