The contentious survey officially ended on Tuesday, with 8,500 madarsas across 75 districts found to be unrecognised. Minister for minority welfare Dharampal Singh said a review of the survey report will be done to assess whether the institutions fulfil the prerequisites set by the government in its survey and accordingly the next move will be decided.
The madarsas were surveyed on the basis of 11 questions set by the government. While the department has yet to decide its next step, Iftikhar Ahmed Javed, chairman of the UP Board of Madarsa Education, said more than half of these institutions have expressed willingness to be recognised by the board and be part of the efforts of the board to get them into the mainstream.
