‘Saturate G20 theme, logo across government properties, events, digital platform’

The ‘lotus logo’ for the 2023 G20 summit in India is set to saturate government offices to stationery and visiting cards apart from digital presence across the country. The logo had generated political controversy when it was unveiled, as the National Flower depicted on it is also the election symbol of the ruling BJP.

The cabinet secretary has in a letter, a fortnight ago, to chief secretaries has said all state governments and autonomous government organisations/PSUs must extensively use the logo and theme.

Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba‘s letter said that the logo and theme will be the cornerstones around which the entire branding and publicity for India’s G20 presidency will be built. “These will be used both to familiarise audiences about the relevance of the G20 as well as to disseminate messaging and outcomes from the G20 as widely as possible.”

An 11-point indicative list has also been sent out on the modus operandi for the G20 logo usage.
The Centre has suggested that the logo and the theme be reflected across all governmental publications from annual reports and study papers to budget documents, periodicals and magazines besides all governmental stationery from folders to notepads to visiting cards, calendars and so on. Even all government buildings should reflect the G20 logo and theme through hoardings and digital screens.

The websites and social media handles of state governments and the autonomous organisations and PSUs under them must also display the logo, it has been suggested.

“Government owned petrol pumps that are spread out across the country, may prominently display the G20 logo and theme,” the letter said.

The Centre also wants all state government events, seminars and workshops organised in the presidency year to do so besides national/international events where state governments may be participating. India goes to polls in 2024, months after the G20 summit.

The same should be effected across any art/craft/cultural festivals organised by government stakeholders or where the state government may be a co-sponsor. The use of logo and theme must be promoted among private partners such as hotel chains, transport agents and even company websites, the letter said.
