The central government and election commission responded to the Supreme Court’s inquiry. According to the Center, appointments based on seniority and tenure are usually for five years, but there are a few exceptions. The government also stated that election commission appointments will be made in accordance with the convention, with no separate appointment procedure. The Supreme Court has said that a ‘fair mechanism should be adapted’.
