Number of militants down: J&K Police Chief

Police chief Dilbag Singh has said that the number of local militants active in J&K has been reduced to double digits and militancy in J&K was ‘under control to a large extent’.

On a visit to northern Kashmir, Singh hoped that the armed forces would be successful in ending militancy in the region and strengthen the path of peace and development.

“The number of local militants is in two digits and number of foreign militants is fewer as well. We hope that we will be successful in ending terrorism here and strengthen the path of peace and development,” Singh said.

‘Hybrid militants’ remain a challenge for the administration as they perform routine duties as a civilian and act as per their directions of the handler in Pakistan whenever needed. “They are given a target, whom they kill with pistols and live a life of civilians till arrested. We are happy that 100 modules of hybrid terrorists have been busted this year and strict action has been taken against them,” he said.
On the recent issue of threat to journalists through an online blog ‘Kashmir Fight‘, Singh claimed that it was run by people across the border who can’t stand peace and development in J&K.
